The brief here was to produce a visual interpretation of a narrative text of our choice. Here is my response to the brief in the form of a short film made in After Effects:
Untitled from Jirka Vaatainen on Vimeo.

Text, sequence and interaction: We were asked to use a piece of string to represent a story of our choice. I chose to do my project based on the film Black Swan. To give it context, I decided to make it into a promotional billboard for the film.

Visualising Data: Creating a system that visualises a set of data of our choice, and shows the relevant relationships between the information. The system that I designed is called the ReadyToWear Colour Finder.
It is an interactive flash piece designed for web, a system you can use to find designer garments in your choice of colour, by your choice of designer, and even in your choice of collection.
The system along with more information can be found in this post

Our 2nd assignment: We were given a country and a profession and were told to design a logo for that profession in the given country. I was lucky enough to end up with Ireland and pole dancing. Here’s my final design:

For our first assignment, we had to design a political postcard. I chose a political scandal from Finland about our foreign minister sending inappropriate text messages to an exotic dancer. Here’s what I came up with:

Hi Jirka! How are you? I absolutely adore all your work. I think you are very talented and have a great future ahead of you.
This is a funny coincidence, but I used to study at Bournemouth University 10 years ago!!! I graduated with a Hotel Management degree. I live in Dubrovnik, Croatia now and am finally realising my dream by purchasing my first hotel.
I am really into design right now and that is how i came across your site. I love your work and i guess my question is what kind of work you do? Do you do website design? I love your pictures and would love for you to come over to Dubrovnik to take pictures of my hotel and create an amazing website for it….this place is really lacking in progressive talented people like you!!!
I hope to hear from you soon and we could discuss everything in greater detail.

Hi Anna! I am busy but good thanks
I have designed websites in the past, but just the look and the lay out – I can’t do the actual coding part. I am fascinated by the project, though! Feel free to email me at jirka.vaatainen@gmail.com if you want to discuss this further

Just ran across your work being displayed on Yahoo.com and wanted to reiterate how truly fantastic your work is! Especially the work you did with the Princess characters, others have tried to re create them in the past but, you have indeed out done them all! Your other pieces are equally amazing and i look forward to seeing more of your work in the future!

Wow! You’re AMAZING! This helped me to know what things I’m going to be doing in Uni since I’m going to take Graphic Design aswell. I realised I still have a lot to learn and so much to improve on art. Thank you so much and your art is beautiful! I’m very impressed!
