Britishness
April 28, 2010
For our latest assignment, we were supposed to produce a design using only words – typography – that reflects what we consider to be an important aspect of British culture. Not being British myself, I could have come up with some interesting point of views for this one. But in the end, it proved to be difficult to come up with an interesting aspect of Britishness. I definitely did not want to go down the fish and chips route.
I finally decided to explore the fame-obsessed Britain. It does seem that modern Britain is somewhat characterised by all these tabloids, reality shows, page 3 girls and glamour models like Katie Price, and every other person wanting to be like them, even through plastic surgery. The culture has definitely been Americanised to a great extent. So I wanted to come up with something funny, yet provocative, communicating the “what ever it takes to make it” – attitude.
I’m very pleased with the design visually, and I’m hoping the message comes across effectively too. I do realise that my topic is definitely not the most important thing about British culture, but important enough, and it did make the assignment a bit more fun to do.
UPDATE – Mon 3 May:
For some reason the tutors decided to give us all a few more days to perfect our designs. They questioned the readability of the distorted text that I had chosen to use, so I continued working on it, and this is the final outcome:
The design is definitely clearer now, but I’m not totally convinced this is better than the original. But I do think it might have more of an impact now.
Flashy
April 26, 2010
We started learning how to use Flash at uni a few weeks back. And in a few weeks to come, we are required to produce a professional looking animation using Flash. Looking at MY FIRST TRY AT FLASH, it seems like I have got a long way to go…
Skin Type

I was going through my raw photography and came across this close up shot I had taken of myself. I decided to play with it a bit and even add some typography (very little, though), since after all, this should be a blog mainly about my graphic design work. I am still more comfortable with images alone, but perhaps some day typography will even overcome my love for images…
Carried Away
April 7, 2010
I was having so much fun editing my newly taken photos in Photoshop, that I decided to put my skills into test and see if I could create a picture of a model that does not exist. So I started combining different pictures I had taken in the past to come up with a unique new look. Considering how well this turned out, I might not even need models in the future…
Capture
April 6, 2010
I’m back home again, so I could not miss out on the opportunity to do some photography. Once again I realised, that fashion and beauty photography are definitely one of my favourite things to do, and especially after all that typography, it’s nice to work with imagery alone.
So these were just for fun, spending time with my sisters and taking a few shots, and then spent hours working on the images in Photoshop. I know for sure that my sisters would not approve with all the looks that I created for them! But I wanted to try something different for a change… The last one is definitely my favourite.
